John Brown Gordon

John Brown GordonAcross the river in a home commandeered for use as a Rebel hospital, a doctor warned the five-times-wounded Colonel John Brown Gordon that the Missus had come all the way up from Georgia. She waited in the next room insisting that she would be delayed not a moment longer. Gordon rose from the bed, his leg splinted, his arm slung and his face covered with a blood-soaked bandage which left all but the eyes to the horrors of the imagination.
“Well, my dear,” he said, “You’ve found him. You’ve found your handsome husband at last.”
